At the office of North Andover Orthodontics, we aim to make sure that your child can enjoy healthy, good-looking, and well-functioning permanent teeth that will last a lifetime. By starting orthodontic care early, our knowledgeable and caring professionals let you rest assured that your child’s oral health is in the best of hands.
We recommend yearly check-ups from age 4 – if you or your Dentist suspect child may have sleep apnea, very narrow arches leading to a unilateral or bilateral posterior crossbite. Other signs of sleep apnea at that age may involve snoring, tossing & turning in sleep, bedwetting, grinding of teeth, and attention deficit.
While most children have 20 primary teeth (10 in the lower jaw, 10 in the upper jaw), they are eventually replaced by 32 permanent teeth, with 16 in each jaw. Primary teeth usually start coming in at the age of 6 months, and permanent teeth usually start erupting at about 6 years. Teeth usually come in pairs.
If a teeth-eruption problems turn up, we will advise you on whether treatment is recommended, when it should begin, the form of treatment, and an estimate of its length of time.
Unaddressed orthodontic problems usually get worse as time goes on. The problems are also harder to treat as a child gets older. These issues can lead to tooth decay, gum disease, broken teeth, and loss of the bone tissue that holds teeth in place.
Orthodontic treatments are not only about aesthetics. The proper functions of the teeth and jaw must also be considered. At the same time, straight teeth also contribute to clear speech. Early intervention will help your child bite and chew correctly. An attractive smile is a great side effect to treatment. It and can lead to a happier, more self-confident child.
